My Skin’s Secret

Joey wanted to improve her skin, with as little pain and as much natural products as possible. And she found it at Amaris B. Face, Skin & Body Clinic!

I’ve always wanted my skin to look as flawless as possible. And although most people would say ‘no pain, no gain’, I’m a huge coward when it comes to pain. I didn’t want to deal with the pain from any intensive treatment or surgery.

I’d also heard many horror stories from some of my other friends who had gone for other skin treatments. And I most certainly didn’t want to spend days locked in my house recovering from raw, lobster red skin.

Taking the first step

After some thought, I decided to go for a skin analysis at Amaris B. Face, Skin and Body Clinic, which had been widely recommended to me. Stepping into their clinic at Arab Street, I was struck by the calm and tranquil set up which relaxed me immediately.
I was introduced to Dr Puah, who greeted me warmly, and explained to me what was in store for me. What was to come first was a thorough CPI Skin Analysis.

This system uses multi-spectral imaging and analysis to capture key visual information for eight areas affecting complexion health and appearance: spots, wrinkles, color variation in the skin tone, pores, sun damage, subsurface pigmentation, vascular conditions, and porphyrins (evidence of bacteria in pores).

Additionally, the system also provided me with an informative comparison of my complexion’s characteristics to others of the same age and skin type, and I was shocked at how much they were able to tell me about my skin with just one look.

The CPI Skin Anaylsis summary report provided me with a clear overview of my facial skin condition. It concluded that my skin was prone to the oily side. I also had problems with acne scars and pore enlargement.

Addressing the problem

Based on the summary report, Dr Puah recommended I try the Carbon Laser Skin toning, a FDA approved non-ablative laser system used in the treatment of many problematic skin condition. It is widely recommended for people who have:

  • Inflammatory Acne
  • Enlarged Pores
  • Fine Wrinkles
  • Oily Skin
  • Pigmented lesions

I also learned that the main advantage of Carbon Laser Skin Toning is that it has significantly lesser downtime as compared to ablative laser systems. Patients are able to return to normal activities immediately after treatment, which was just what I was looking for!

What came next

The first thing that was done was a thorough cleansing of my face, and after that a topical anesthetic cream was applied. I was told that this would take 15 to 20 minutes to take effect. As I lay there, I began to get slightly apprehensive. Why would they need to numb my face?

Perhaps they could tell I was getting nervous, because Dr Puah’s assistant assured me that everything would be ok. I took a deep breath, tried to calm myself and soon I began to feel like I was losing some sensation in my face.

The carbon-toning lotion came next. This lotion contained fine carbon particles, and it was applied thinly and evenly onto my face. The smell of the carbon was quite strong, but I got used to it after a while.

Then it was time for the laser! The first laser pass was meant to penetrate deep into my dermis, and had a photothermal effect. I was told that this would stimulate skin cell regeneration and exfoliate the outermost layer of my skin.

The 2nd pass caused an “explosion” of the fine carbon particles that was applied on my skin. The noises were rather loud, so I was quite startled and a little scared. I soon realized that I couldn’t feel anything, least of all pain, and felt more at ease.

This 2nd pass was to create a photomechanical effect that would help to exfoliate my skin, shrink pores, reduce sebum production, stimulate collagen remodeling and penetrate deep into the dermis fracturing the melanin that causes uneven pigmentation.

The final touch

To finish off, they cleaned my face and used their Amaris B. botanical skin care range to nicely round off my treatment. I love natural products, and the Amaris B. botanical range is specially formulated with pure botanical ingredients that are vital for healthy skin. They are also free from parabens, artificial fragrances, derivatives, silicone, pertroleum and any other ingredients that might be harmful to our skin and well-being.

They first applied a layer of Amaris B. Antioxidant Boost Mask on my face. Packed with essential vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, the mask would help repair the treated areas of my face and help to stimulate the growth of new cells. It also contains green tea extract, evening primrose oil, blueberry fruit extract, all of which contains powerful antioxidant properties.

After 5 to 15 minutes, the mask was gently removed and Amaris B. Ultra Soothing Gel was applied. This gel was so cooling and gave me such a soothing sensation! Containing Myrrh and Chamomile Blue essential oil, this gentle gel helps to assist in healing inflammation and sooth sensitive skin.

I looked at my face and already I could see and feel a difference in my face! I was told that for maximum results, it was best to have at least 3 weekly treatments, and then maintain it with a session every 3 months.

My visit to Amaris B. showed me that when it comes to my skin, with the right treatment I can have all of the gain with none of the pain! LW
